1. How did you come across Outdoor Grit?
Suz – a friend of my children’s choir community did a post on Facebook about Barbellas. It was good timing.
I was just beginning to looking for a local place to work out after having reached my goals at my physio clinic’s post natal Pilates classes. I wanted to find somewhere I could take my 5 month old bubs too, as it had been convenient to take her to my physio till this point. I also was keen for a gym alternative, I knew I loved group classes but most were super early or too late in the evening. Barbellas timing and location in the park was just perfect.
2. Tell us one interesting thing about yourself that the tribe wouldn’t know
I lived in Finland for a year in 1997 as an exchange student. Awesome experience! I got to intimately know the Finnish people and travel a lot around Europe. Long summer days (21 hour days of daylight) , cold and dark winter days (2hrs sunshine!) and adjusting to a unique culture was truly unforgettable. I still have a lot of special cultural practices imbedded in my life- you know making gingerbread at Christmas time and a love of saunas!
3. What is your all-time favourite film?
I love ‘what dreams may come’ with Robin Williams. It’s a bit heavy but I love the true love portrayed and the depiction of heaven and earth. Robin Williams is forever immortalised as a unique and talented man.
4. Who is your all-time favourite band/musician?
I do love the B52’s. I play Rock Lobster and Love Shack really loud in the car with my girls. But then again … there’s so many good retro rock songs. I love applying songs to daily life so regularly beat out hits like the Proclaimers ‘500 miles’ at school pick up (walking to the car; parked a billion miles away; according to the bearers of very tired young legs.)
5. If you could recommend one book that everyone needs to read, what would it be?
I can’t answer this. There are too many books that serve. How about a quote instead- I love “Desiderata” an early 1920s prose poem by the American writer Max Ehrmann. Great words that I try to live by.
6. What is one fitness/health goal you would like to achieve over the next 6-12 months?
I’m back at work in a few months so I’d love to think I can keep up my routine in a new schedule. With 3 kids and a part time job it’s gonna be tricky. I’ll have to move on from Barbellas and hit it with the biggies!
So maybe my goal will just be simply to try and continue to just rock up!
