To Mel and Back Pt. 14 – The Fitness Journey of One Adelaide Mum

Shout out to all my Sisters

February 28th, 2020

With International Women’s Day coming up on 8th March, I thought it only fitting to focus this blog on the awesome women that form part of our outdoor fitness community, especially our women’s only BarBellas classes.

I love what IWD has to say about this year’s campaign “The IWD campaign theme is drawn from a notion of ‘Collective Individualism’. We are all parts of a whole.  Our individual actions, behaviours and mindsets can have an impact … Collectively, we can make change happen”.

When I think about our female crew at OG, this totally resonates. Each week, I have the absolute privilege of training with women who inspire me, make me laugh, and encourage me to give it my all.  There is no competition (except when the ‘Glassy Game’ is involved), only lifting each other up.  We are all on our own journey and show up for varied reasons, we all have very different backgrounds, but that’s the absolute beauty of it.

One of our regulars said to me “what do I need to do to get back into your blog, pull my boob out again??” (I mentioned her previously breast feeding like a boss in the middle of a workout).  Well babes, no boobs needed (thank God because mine have disappeared) … just being awesomely, authentically, YOU.

So, what happens at a women’s only class?  There is a lot of innuendo, jokes and laughter. There are plans of 80’s aerobics dress-up days and soundtracks to match.  Occasionally, there is coffee and smoothies to be had post-class.  There are women championing each other wholeheartedly.
